Salem Township Hospital is a public hospital licensed for 46 beds by the Illinois Department of Health. The Hospital became a Critical Access Hospital effective May 1, 2005.

The Governing Board consists of 6 members who are appointed by the Salem Township Board. One board member represents the Medical Staff.  There are 11 active medical staff members with the following specialties: Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Surgery, Pathology, Radiology and an Emergency Department Director.  The hospital also staffs two Nurse Practitioners who provide services for the Rural Health Clinic.  Numerous consulting and courtesy medical physicians representing a wide variety of healthcare specialties treat their patients at this facility.

Acute care clinical services within the organization include: Medicine, Special Care Unit, Surgery, Endoscopy, Emergency, Outpatient, Education/Infection Control, Radiology, Sleep Disorder Lab, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Case Management, Laboratory, Cardiac Rehab, Nuclear Medicine, and Respiratory Care. Swingbed services are also available.

The hospital also operates a Rural Health Clinic located in the Emergency Department.

Contract services are Pathology, Radiology, Emergency Department Physicians, Nutritional Services, Pharmacy, Southern Surgical Support (laser and cataract), Nuclear Medicine, Hospice, Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy, Social Services, BioMed, and mobile Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
